# Chart

This article demonstrates how to add, access, remove, and update charts in a presentation using **Aspose.Slides for Python via Java**.

Install the package as described in [Installation](/slides/python-java/installation/). Each example imports `asposeslides` before starting the JVM, then imports the API after the JVM is running. Run the addition example first to create `chart.pptx` for the remaining examples.

## **Add a Chart**

Add an area chart to the first slide and save the presentation.

```python
import jpype
import asposeslides

if not jpype.isJVMStarted():
    jpype.startJVM()

from asposeslides.api import ChartType, Presentation, SaveFormat

presentation = Presentation()
try:
    slide = presentation.getSlides().get_Item(0)

    # Add an area chart to the first slide.
    chart = slide.getShapes().addChart(ChartType.Area, 50, 50, 400, 300)

    presentation.save("chart.pptx", SaveFormat.Pptx)
finally:
    presentation.dispose()
```

## **Access a Chart**

Find the first chart in the shape collection on the first slide.

```python
import jpype
import asposeslides

if not jpype.isJVMStarted():
    jpype.startJVM()

from asposeslides.api import Chart, Presentation

presentation = Presentation("chart.pptx")
try:
    slide = presentation.getSlides().get_Item(0)

    # Access the first chart on the slide.
    first_chart = None
    for index in range(slide.getShapes().size()):
        shape = slide.getShapes().get_Item(index)
        if isinstance(shape, Chart):
            first_chart = shape
            break

    if first_chart is None:
        print("The first slide contains no charts.")
finally:
    presentation.dispose()
```

## **Remove a Chart**

Remove the first chart from the slide and save the modified presentation.

```python
import jpype
import asposeslides

if not jpype.isJVMStarted():
    jpype.startJVM()

from asposeslides.api import Chart, Presentation, SaveFormat

presentation = Presentation("chart.pptx")
try:
    slide = presentation.getSlides().get_Item(0)

    # Find and remove the first chart on the slide.
    chart = None
    for index in range(slide.getShapes().size()):
        shape = slide.getShapes().get_Item(index)
        if isinstance(shape, Chart):
            chart = shape
            break

    if chart is not None:
        slide.getShapes().remove(chart)
    else:
        print("The first slide contains no charts.")

    presentation.save("chart_removed.pptx", SaveFormat.Pptx)
finally:
    presentation.dispose()
```

## **Update Chart Data**

Display the chart title, change its text, and save the updated presentation.

import asposeslides

    jpype.startJVM()

from asposeslides.api import Chart, Presentation, SaveFormat

presentation = Presentation("chart.pptx")
try:
    slide = presentation.getSlides().get_Item(0)

        if isinstance(shape, Chart):
            chart = shape
            break

    if chart is not None:
        # Display the chart title and change its text.

        chart.getChartTitle().addTextFrameForOverriding("Sales Report")
    else:
        print("The first slide contains no charts.")

    presentation.save("chart_updated.pptx", SaveFormat.Pptx)
