In a Python application, the extracted text can feed an index, a document management system, or a language-processing pipeline. Cloud workers can apply the same workflow to files received from uploads or object storage.

## **Overview of Presentation Formats**

### **PPT: Legacy PowerPoint Format**

PPT is the binary format associated with PowerPoint 97–2003. Its records cannot be processed as XML documents. A parser needs to understand the binary structures and their relationships to reconstruct slide content.

Text may occur in slide objects, notes, and comments. An extraction workflow should define which of these sources it includes, rather than treating a presentation as one continuous text stream.

### **PPTX: Office Open XML**

PPTX is a ZIP package containing XML parts and other resources. Slide text commonly appears in `ppt/slides/slideX.xml` within `a:t` elements. Notes are stored in separate notes-slide parts, and comments have their own parts connected through package relationships.

Reading only the text elements from slide XML can miss content stored elsewhere in the package. It also does not reconstruct formatting or reading order. A complete workflow may need to account for layouts, grouped shapes, tables, charts, and related parts.

### **ODP: OpenDocument Presentation**

ODP is the packaged OpenDocument presentation format used by applications such as LibreOffice Impress. Like PPTX, it contains XML within a ZIP package, but it uses the OpenDocument vocabulary and structure.

Presentation content is primarily stored in `content.xml`. Paragraph text uses elements such as `text:p`, with nested elements for spans and other text features. PPTX-specific XML queries therefore cannot be reused directly for ODP.
